Mental Health Benefits of Walking April Showers Bring May Flowers

Many recent studies suggest that getting into natural environments can improve the mood and increase energy almost immediately.  Being in nature facilitates a sense of relaxation and freedom, connection with the present moment and enhances our ability to put things into perspective. Plus, the vitamin D acquired can also lessen the likelihood of experiencing depressive symptoms.  Any kind of exercise is good for both physical and mental health, but we can all take the first steps towards improving our quality of life through a daily walk.  Instead of looking at the walk as a chore to do, try to find the pleasure in it. You can take notice of your surroundings, see it as a time to take care of yourself and absorb the nature with your senses.  You may find it helpful to develop a routine around walking; routines in our days help to put some structure into our lives.

As a way to support physical activity and because “Mens Sana in Corpore Sano” (Healthy mind in healthy body) , we are proud to offer sessions while walking in nature. If you are interested in a Walk and Talk Session, let your therapist know.
