Founded in 1794, Thornhill is a thriving suburban community that roots itself in history and surrounds itself with nature. The community was is named after Benjamin Thorne, a British settler who helped drive the economy in Thornhill and surrounding areas. It later became a Police Village in 1931.
Thornhill is split between Vaughan and Markham and is located right along the outskirts of Toronto. It is home to a very ethnically diverse population and beautiful scenery.
The region is riddled with parks and greenery like the Concord/ Thornhill Regional Park, Pierre Elliot Trudeau Park, and Bathurst District Park. Thornhill also boasts the Sugarbush Heritage Park, a perfect destination for walking or hiking. The Pomona Valley Park is a great place for residents and visitors to relax and enjoy the scenery as well. The park is surrounded by streams and riddled with beautiful wildflowers. Trails on the park are well kept and walk during the fall are a definite must-try.
It is also home to several golf clubs such as the Thornhill Club, Uplands Golf and Ski Club. Patrons may also choose to visit the Promenade, a shopping mall located conveniently at Centre Street and Bathurst Street. The Promenade Shopping Centre is also a hotspot for people in Thornhill because of ease of access and it’s a wide array of stores and activities.
Thornhill is also home to several famed personalities such as tennis player Bianca Adreeescu, -time All-American ice hockey forward Nicole Corriero, actor and musician Stuart Stone, and musician Anne Murray.
