Our Trauma Therapy Approaches
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for Trauma
Trauma-focused CBT for adults is a gold-standard treatment supported by decades of research. Approaches like Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure (PE) are especially effective for reducing PTSD symptoms. These therapies help individuals process traumatic memories, challenge distressing thoughts, and regain a sense of control and stability. CBT is particularly well-suited for veterans and survivors seeking structure, clarity, and practical skills for recovery.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a highly effective, evidence-based therapy that helps the brain reprocess traumatic memories using bilateral stimulation, often through eye movements or tapping. It is especially helpful for reducing emotional intensity and distress without requiring detailed verbal recounting of the trauma.
Mindfulness-Based Psychotherapy for Trauma
This approach integrates mindfulness, body awareness, and compassion-focused practices with evidence-based therapy to support emotional regulation and healing. It helps individuals stay grounded, reduce anxiety, and build resilience by learning to respond rather than react to trauma-related triggers.
Somatic Experiencing (SE) for Trauma Relief
Somatic Experiencing is a body-based trauma therapy that works with the nervous system to gently release stored survival energy from the body. Through tracking physical sensations and building self-awareness, clients learn to regulate stress responses and restore a sense of safety and agency.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy for Trauma Healing
IFS is an evidence-informed, compassionate therapy model that helps individuals heal trauma by connecting with different “parts” of themselves—such as protectors, exiles, and the core Self. It is especially beneficial for complex PTSD, early attachment wounds, and dissociative symptoms.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) for Trauma Recovery
DBT combines cognitive-behavioural techniques with mindfulness practices to support individuals struggling with emotional dysregulation, self-harm, or suicidal thoughts. For trauma survivors, DBT enhances coping, strengthens boundaries, and promotes emotional stability and connection.
Post-Traumatic Growth-Focused Therapy
This strength-based approach focuses on helping individuals not only recover from trauma but grow through it. Clients are supported in finding new meaning, deepening relationships, and rebuilding identity and purpose following adversity.
