Biography: Pamela Stokes has a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania (Penn), a Master’s degree in Social and Personality Psychology, and an Honours Bachelor’s Degree, summa cum laude, in Psychology from York University. Her experience and training have shaped her lifelong focus on anxiety, depression, flourishing, and what makes life meaningful. At the Positive Psychology Center, she worked with her academic advisor and director of the center, Dr. Martin Seligman, on optimizing online Positive Psychology interventions. She has engaged in research and presented at international conferences on compassion, patience, depression, work stress, and proactive coping. Pamela has a client-centered approach and has worked in university, hospital, and governmental settings, providing integrative, empirically-supported therapy, involving motivational (MI), psychodynamic, emotion-focused (EFT), CBT, CPT, systemic-constructivist, and narrative approaches as appropriate to clients with various mental health needs including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and recent and historical trauma. Pamela co-developed a group therapy program for Thistletown Regional Center, Ontario Ministry of Children and Youth Services. She is a certified Master Resilience Trainer, a joint initiative of the U.S. Army and Penn as part of Comprehensive Soldier and Family Fitness. She has delivered invited talks on coping with stress and burnout, optimism, and building resilience.
